FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why is this the right time to tackle this initiative?

LOPAC offers MSYT an unprecedented opportunity to address all our leading challenges in a new home that will meet our current needs and allow MSYT to significantly grow in outreach, capacity, theatrical range and community experiences for all ages.

Our opportunity to locate to a Low Country Performing Arts Center that will provide:

  • A home.
  • Year-round family entertainment.
  • A larger variety of theatrical experiences  – musicals, plays, workshops.
  • More extensive opportunities to develop and use talent – on stage and back stage.
  • Greater interaction and participation with local college programs and talent.
  • The ability to attract regional and national performers to the Low Country.
  • Educational opportunities – summer camp  – single biggest ask from MSYT patrons.
  • Larger seating capacity to recoup show costs and offer more enrichment programs.
  • Opportunity to cap and pre-pay our single largest expense, rent, for 30 years.

Why is it urgent now?

LOPAC offers MSYT an unprecedented opportunity to address all our leading challenges in a new home that will meet our current needs and allow MSYT to significantly grow in outreach, capacity, theatrical range and community experiences for all ages.

Our current model is not sustainable.  If not now, MSYT will likely be nonsolvent within 10-15 years, if not sooner.

  • The land, within the Bluffton Arts District, is already owned by Live Oak Christian Church (LOCC).
  • LOCC is partnering with MSYT in this project and fundraising.
  • Bluffton leadership tells us that a theatre is the leading ask in community.
  • MSYT has a rich 20+-year history of providing quality theatre on Hilton Head.
  • Hilton Head demographics do not align with long term sustainability for a youth-oriented theatre.

Having preferential access to the facility and its calendar will enable MSYT to strategically plan its season and allow greater variety of shows builds theatrical experience, education, and entertainment value.

LOPAC provides MSYT with a 30-year agreement that frees it up to do what it does best – put the spotlight on local talent.

What do we envision as the potential, realistic outcomes

We believe this newly constructed performing arts center will be a place where youth can be mentored in life skills; and where adults can give back in a symbiotic partnership.  A place where the arts come out to play and people are encouraged and enlivened through theatrical arts.

Principle consideration for the LOPAC calendar allows us to strategically plan for each season to offer a greater variety of shows.  This also will offer all participants and theatre go-ers opportunities to explore different styles of theatre – musicals, dramas, cabarets, summer camps, etc.
